We welcome you to the 19th Annual Sloan Consortium International Conference on Online Learning. The conference program will offer a full complement of presentations that reflect the implications for the field of specific e-learning experience and practices. Keynote and plenary addresses, as well as pre-conference workshops, featured sessions, information sessions, Best-in-Track presentations, and poster presentations will address blended learning, issues of diversity, international applications of online learning, open educational resources, social networking, online learning and community colleges, and K-12 online education as well as other topics of common interest.

Who Should Attend?
This conference, which will provide the latest information on asynchronous learning programs, processes, packages, and protocols, is geared to both experienced professionals and interested newcomers to online learning who hail from a variety of work sectors, including higher education, continuing education, K-12 professionals, business, government, health care, professional associations, and nonprofit organizations. It is especially designed to meet the needs of:

  • College-level faculty and administrators
  • Instructional technology and media professionals
  • Instructional designers
  • Trainers in public and private sector organizations


Attendee Demographics
Attendance at the 2012 Annual conference located in Orlando, FL attracted 1,585 onsite attendees and 1100 virtual attendees from over 675 institutions, 47 states & territories, and 25 countries representing college level faculty and administrators, instructional technology professionals and instructional designers.  Specific details on institutions, states/territories, and countries represented at the Symposium are available from the Conference Services Manager.

Attendee Checklist - Be fully prepared for a great conference experience by reviewing this checklist.

Onsite Attendees:

  • Participate in the Conference Commons Training session on (TBD). This is an important step to understanding how to access all uploaded materials pre-conference and recorded sessions post-conference. Registered attendees will receive an email later in October with the link for the training session.
  • Download the Sloan-C Conference mobile app from the Program page. This will provide you full session descriptions. The printed Schedule-at-a-Glance that you will be provided onsite does not include session descriptions.
  • Sign up for the Hollywood Studios event (amend your registration here to add your RSVP).
  • Sign up for the Sloan-C Awards Luncheon  (amend your registration here to add your luncheon ticket).
  • Hotel rooms are available at the Swan and Dolphin, but they are going fast. If you would like to add a night on either end of your trip, now is the time to book.
  • Join in the conversation – follow the Sloan-C Conference Social networking. Join us on Facebook (, Twitter (@sloanconsortium and @sloac_aln and #aln13) and Linkedin (
  • Let your colleagues know you are attending the conference. Download an electronic badge for use in your email signature or on your website.
  • Review the program schedule prior to departure for Orlando; plan how you will use your time at the conference.
  • Familiarize yourself with our keynote speakers and the topics of their addresses.
  • Consider taking advantage of the Sloan Consortium membership while it is discounted to you.

Virtual Attendees:

  • Participate in the Conference Commons Training session on (TBD). The training session will provide important information on how to access the live and on-demand streamed sessions, presentations, and supplemental materials. A complete review of how to test your system and access the webcast seamlessly will be covered in the training session. Registered attendees will receive an email later in October with the link for the training session.
  • Look for a separate email with Conference Commons Access instructions. Read that email thoroughly and bookmark it for future reference.
  • Review the streamed program schedule ahead of time and plan which sessions you want to watch live vs. on-demand.

  • Let your colleagues know you are attending the conference virtually. Download an electronic badge to use in your email signature or on your website.

  • Be on the lookout for future "Countdown to the Sloan-C Annual Conference" emails. These emails will serve to remind you of the access instructions and the importance of testing your system prior to the start of the live streamed sessions. Read these and you will have a smooth, seamless conference viewing experience.
