Extended Abstract

Discover the principles and guidelines that will make your course a winner for everyone!

Know the rules: What is 508 compliance? Does it really apply to your course? Can you ignore it? Who is the W3C and what is the WCAG2.0?

Know the playbook: What is accessibility? How do you achieve it? Is there a magic formula? What will it cost? Will this make my course boring?

Create your offense: What is Universal Design for Learning? What does it have to do with accessibility? Isn't this going to take a lot more time?

Discover the answers to these questions as we explore ways that will not only make your course more accessible, but also more engaging forAll of your students. If you create any course content, this presentation is for you!

Throughout the class, various tools will be demonstrated as well as some video examples of different accessibility features. Attendees will participate in several polls and in addition to a handout, a LiveBinder web resource will be provided toAll participants.

Lead Presenter

Donna McLauchlin, CCC-SLP, is passionate about empowering each student to achieve and accomplish his/her full potential. Having been an SLP for over 30 years, she has vast experience in supporting learners ofAll styles and with a variety of challenges and has worked with children in settings that range from PreK to high school. She is currently employed as an Educational Specialist in the area of Assistive Technology at Region 4 ESC in Houston, TX, a leader in providing professional development to education professionals. In addition to traditional face-to-face training, Donna also designs and creates online training to support professionals in learning to use the many devices and systems available for students who learn differently.
