Abstract

Making deliberate connections between library services, resources, and blended learning instructors is essential. This presentation gives practical tips on making that connection.

Extended Abstract

An important aspect of research-based blended learning is to ensure flexible access to library resources for both faculty and students. This presentation focuses on how Western Washington University Libraries connects with university course instructors to provide research resources and services for blended and off-campus learning. It presents the rationale for working with librarians to develop course content with an overview of the research related to blended learning and library services and illustrates these points with examples from our experience. Topics covered include library resource access, the integration of library research tools within a course, and reserves and copyright clearance. A significant portion of this presentation focuses on methods to embed research instruction into blended courses, both synchronously and asynchronously. This presentation concludes with a description of the best practices for librarians and instructors to collaborate on blended learning courses.

Lead Presenter

Gabe is the librarian for off-campus and online courses at Western Washington University in Bellingham Washington.
