Extended Abstract

Link to Google Doc version with agenda in a table - http://goo.gl/xbgy3X

Deluged by everchanging emerging and innovative technologies, it is time to pause, survey this exciting landscape and create innovative learning opportunities that are engaging and represent what is currently known and available.

In this workshop, participants will discuss technology trends and their influence on learning theory and learning design. They will take part in the simulation of innovative course design models within a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) learning environment. Finally, participants will apply what they learn to their own courses and learning design.

The following learning objectives guide this workshop:
1) Through presentation and discussion, participants will be able to identify, share, and discuss technology trends and their influence on learning theory and learning design.
2)Through simulation, participants will be able to identify and discuss innovative course and classroom models.
3)Through reflection, interaction, and discussion, participants will apply new knowledge from the seminar to their own learning design of courses and classrooms.

Participants will have the opportunity to be engaged with a Twitter backchannel, collaborative presentation and document creation, a MOOC, and a variety of group-based explorations and simulations.

For full participation, an attending participant should bring a mobile device, preferably a laptop, and be able to access links to sites and optionally participate in Twitter.
