In an online or hybrid class setting, connecting with students is critical! Web-based and mobile resources offer new opportunities in engaging and communicating with students.

Extended Abstract

Our ideas of communicating, connecting and engaging might be different than our students. A majority of today's students are digital communicators and are immersed in a world full of text messages, social media, and instant connectivity. In an online or hybrid class setting where connecting with our students is especially critical, web-based and mobile resources offer new opportunities in engaging and communicating. Tools such as AudioBoo, Educreations, Jing, Screencast, and Skitch allow instructors to connect and communicate with students in ways which extend past the physical classroom. This session will describe these resources and how they can help to enhance teaching and learning in an online or hybrid course setting.

Lead Presenter

Kristy Conger currently serves as an Education Specialist in the Office of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She received her MS in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership with an emphasis in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Memphis. Kristy has 17 years of experience in the field of education. Before joining UTHSC in June 2012, Kristy held positions as Academic Technology Consultant at the University of Memphis and Director of Instructional Technology at Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education at the University of Memphis, teaching both hybrid and fully online courses.
