Abstract

By integrating open education tutorials and resources, instructors can more efficiently develop and maintain courses in rapidly changing fields.

Extended Abstract

The objective of this information session is to demonstrate the use of tutorials and course content created by subject experts that are shared as open educational items. Course development and maintenance times can be reduced through the use of these tools. Moore's Law states that technology evolves at exponential rates. Professors in technology-based programs, while teaching courses in broader subject areas, have an inability to keep up with content and related supplemental materials.

Subject matter experts can be utilized online to supplement in-class presentations in blended course applications. These experts, while focusing on narrower areas of study, can provide more in-depth resources than the instructor can while co-developing in-class presentations. This session will provide examples of blended classroom environments that utilize SME's and how to integrate them while maintaining credibility with the students in the classroom.
