BRCC established a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) to discuss Hybrid/Blending Learning. Learn about our FLC model to promote quality Blended Learning classes.

Extended Abstract

Baton Rouge Community College has spent the past year redesigning and relaunching its eLearning program with the desire to improve rigor and quality with an emphasis on student learning. The process started with revision of fully online courses but is now being expanded to include Hybrid/Blending learning courses. BRCC is a member of Quality Matters and utilizes QM standards in its eLearning courses.

Dean Todd Pourciau of the Division of Innovative Learning and Academic Support hosted a Common Reader FLC on "What the Best Teachers Do". Based on its success, the decision was made to set up a similar Faculty Learning Community to explore Hybrid/Blended courses. This session will explain the Faculty Learning Community model that was used and how it benefits faculty and the institution. Information will be shared regarding the structure of the FLC, topics of discussion, reference materials, and follow-through. Find out how our teachers and students are doing - we already have positive feedback from faculty and students on the changes we have made. You will walk away with all of the tools you need to use this model in your own school.
