Join us to learn about the Schoology Education Cloud, a next generation learning environment built on an entirely different model from its LMS predecessors. In this session we'll share some of the many benefits there are to adopting an education cloud model at your institution.

Extended Abstract

To enable a rich online learning environment where communication, collaboration and flexible pedagogy can be fostered requires a flexible architecture built around open standards and modern design principles. This “smartphone model” where scholars and learners have access to unlimited educational resources and apps is prompting top colleges and universities to move away from traditional CMS/LMS solutions towards a truly open and engaging digital learning ecosystem model. In this session we’ll explore the defining characteristics of an Education Cloud, including:

Personalization – creating an environment where institutions, disciplines and even end users can architect the learning environment to meet their specific needs.

Interoperability and integration – Eliminating silos of technologies is a hallmark of the education cloud. Building on the value of the LMS as well as the inclusion of other tools and technologies that educators and students are already using (e.g., Google Drive, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft One Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, Merlot, etc) the Education Cloud model allows students and faculty to build their own personalized educational toolbox.

Actionable Intelligence (Advising and Analytics) – Providing easy to discern data and analytics for faculty, advisors, and institutional research teams allows institutions to connect with at risk students before it is too late.

Collaboration –Fostering both inter and intra-institutional collaborations by employing a modern social media framework, the education cloud model allows users to discover content and engage beyond the course or campus. Global learning moves from a challenge to reality in the education cloud.

Mobile – Today’s on-the-go student and faculty member wants – dare we say, requires – an anywhere, anytime infrastructure of teaching, learning, communication and collaboration tools. The education cloud transcends the desktop to mobile devices making teaching and learning possible anywhere, anytime.
