An overview of the latest technology trends and research for online and blended learning environments will be presented. Participants will engage new technologies and techniques.

Extended Abstract

New technology tools inundate the educational environment. A steady stream of exciting new hardware, cloud-based tools, wearable devices, and apps continue to emerge. An overview of the latest technology trends and research for online and blended learning environments will be presented during the first hour of this presentation. The remaining time will be hands on, active, engaged learning where participants will engage new technologies and techniques. We will test new tools through out the year for possible use with the participants. Participants will be able to discuss and interact with presenters and each other how the technologies being showcased may help to better engage students and accomplish specific desired learning outcomes. One tool that we may be able to highlight this year will be MicrosoftÕs HoloLens and how this type of augmented reality technology may be engaged with learning activities, support Teacher Education certification requirements, and be able to assist faculty with developing augmented reality environments, as well as drawbacks and considerations needed to introduce augmented reality technologies.
After a beginning large group presentation and discussion, participants will work in small groups to explore several new technologies and discuss how each might be best used to enhance the classroom. Participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts about introducing new technologies and best approaches to utilizing technologies in innovative ways in online and blended classrooms.

This workshop is designed to allow participants to meet the following learning outcomes:
- Understand the most recent trends in learning technologies
- Develop a sense of innovation in how new technologies may be used within specific disciplines or content areas across an institution to augment online and blended learning environments.
- Connect technologies with educational research related to reaching multiple student audiences in diverse ways.
- Enjoy the exploration of new technologies

Current technologies to be included (likely to change as new ones emerge during the year) include:
- Hardware: Microsoft HoloLens (if available by the time of the conference), Leap Motion (newest release), Google Glass (is it dead yet?), latest iOS and Android devices & gear, Wearable technologies including the SmartWatch technology.
- Web-based tools: Focusing on tools that enhance accessibility and research for education
- Mobile Apps: Apps are being developed and hitting the market daily. New apps that emerge in 2015 will be included and reviewed. A nod to apps that assist with privacy/security and documenting or exploring learning outcome/skills will be given first priority.

Expectations of deliverables for this session:
A website will be designed with information for the participants to take back to their campuses to share with faculty and decision-makers for review and evaluation prior to the purchase of technologies at their own institutions.

Participants should bring their own mobile device (or devices) to use during the workshop.

This workshop would appeal to K-12 teachers, as well as those in higher education.
