Abstract

Activities that served as 'institutional change agents' resulting in the incorporation of distance education and instruction into an institution's template of educating students.

Extended Abstract

Design, adoption, and implementation of online instruction require commitment and involvement of faculty and key administrators. This presentation identifies key players needed as participants to (1) buy into the mission and objectives of online instruction, and (2) then to exert their respective roles and authority to develop policies and (re)direct resources for online and distance education. What is essential in accomplishing this alignment of faculty and administrators with distance education is an array of activities directed by knowledgeable and effective technical (course design, media, and systems) personnel. This presentation provides of a case study and examples of successful activities that served as 'institutional change agents' resulting in the incorporation of distance education and instruction into an institution's template of educating students.
