When you make the choice to partner with something or someone you can only get better. Let 2016 be the year you increase your marketability and performance in conjunction with professional development offerings at the OLC Institute for Learning. During this presentation attendees will discover the opportunities for continued excellence in teaching and learning through the OLC Institute.
Through this premier online venue you can continue to develop your skills, knowledge, and talent while expanding your professional network. This session features facilitators from the Advanced Teaching Certificate, The Online Teaching Certificate, and Mastery Series.
The Institute uses the OLC's pillars of quality in online education learning effectiveness, scale, faculty and student satisfaction, and access - as the foundation for all professional develop and learning. This session will highlight the 2016 Online Teaching Certificate programs as well as he Mastery Series programs and include facilitators from each specialty area.
The 2016 Online Teaching Certificate Programs are designed to prepare educators in quality course design and effective online instructional delivery. This program offers mentor support, guidance, and specialization in an area of your choice through a series of elective workshops. The advanced certificate program offers peer feedback and expert advice from seasoned faculty members and administrators.
The Mastery Series Programs are a series of three workshops developed to help you gain mastery of special topics to support your professional development needs. In Mastery Series Programs, you explore theoretical foundations and applications to employ research and strategies in your course, program, or team. Workshops are one week in length providing a three-week break between sessions to allow for assimilation, reflection, and integration on your practice.

Lead Presenter
Jennifer Rafferty

Jennifer Rafferty, MA, MEd provides leadership in researching, scoping, managing, and evaluating a full range of professional development solutions for multiple audiences within the OLC Institute. She has worked for over 15 years supporting online learning initiatives in higher education and in the adult basic education system. Jennifer assumed this role at OLC after working for over seven years as an instructional designer at Quinnipiac University Online in Hamden, Connecticut. During her time at Quinnipiac University, Jennifer was also responsible for spearheading the development of the first online Spanish course at the University. She continues to teach this specialized curriculum for the School of Nursing and presents both nationally and internationally on the topic of online foreign language instruction. Prior to working in higher education, Jennifer was the project manager for the Massachusetts Adult Basic Education Distance Learning Project. In this role, she collaborated with the Massachusetts Department of Education and Project IDEAL to research and identify best practices for distance learning programs serving adult GED and ESL students. Jennifer holds a Masters of Education in Instructional Design from UMASS Boston, a Masters of Arts in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an undergraduate degree in Romance Languages from Mount Holyoke College.

  
Angela Gibson

Dr. Angela M. Gibson has served in higher education as faculty and staff in academics and student affairs. She has taught face to face, blended, and fully online at various institutions including community colleges, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), state universities, and for-profit institutions teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. She has been published in various peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks, Community College of Research and Practice, and Issues in Educational Research. She is active in national education associations performing in roles as reviewer, chair, discussant, and mentor. Additionally, she serves as a reviewer for education journals. Dr. Gibson serves with the rank of Professor for the School of Arts and Humanities at American Public University System. Additionally, she serves as a facilitator for the Online Learning Consortium workshops and as a facilitator and a mentor for the OLC Online Teaching Certificate Program. Dr. Gibson received a Masters of Arts in Human Performance Systems, with a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design, from Marymount University and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, with concentrations in Adult Education and Community College Education, from Texas A & M University – Kingsville. Additionally, Dr. Gibson volunteers as an informal STEM educator creating learning opportunities at schools and with community organizations as well as providing social media outreach for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). She is a recipient of the Online Learning Consortium (formerly Sloan Consortium) 2014 Effective Practice Award.
