Abstract

The fusion of data analytics, learning technology, and curriculum and innovation has fostered a culture of evidence-based decision.

Extended Abstract

With over 60,000 students and 3,500 faculty at Ashford University, it is challenging to evaluate and predict the impact of curricular and instructional enhancements at scale. In order to address this challenge, a work group of faculty leadership, business intelligence and data analytics collaborated to develop a model for successful data extraction and analysis to inform curriculum improvements through the Course Health Dashboard. This fusion of data analytics, learning technology, and curriculum and innovation has fostered a culture of evidence-based decision making resulting in answering course-related questions and the impact of various metrics on the performance of a course (s).

Lead Presenter

Andrew Shean, EdD, is Chief Academic Learning Officer at Bridgepoint Eductation. Previously, he served as Vice Provost of Curriculum and Innovation at Ashford University, was the Executive Dean, as well as an Associate Professor at Ashford’s College of Education. He is committed to changing the face of higher education through technology to meet the needs of an evolving student base. Prior to joining Ashford University, Dr. Shean was an Administrator in the Poway Unified School District, leading the district’s initiative to develop an online education program. He has also held faculty positions with Alliant International University, Chapman University, and Palomar Community College. Dr. Shean holds a Doctorate of Educational Leadership and Management, an MA in Education, and a BA in Sociology.
