Extended Abstract

Prepare to motivate and engage teacher learners by building an ongoing Professional Learning model offering differentiated support and coaching based on a set of instructional pillars - essential skills necessary to maximize teaching potential. Implement tools and strategies to create a strong, collaborative teaching core.

Participant Outcomes
-Identify teacher expectations, school philosophy; and create engaging, interactive training based on these identified Instructional Pillars.
-Create a model for "Inspecting what you are expecting," which includes follow-up and follow through with coaching and continued support.
-Build an ongoing Professional Learning Model that offers differentiated support to all learners based upon individual learning needs.

Session Alignment
Before working for us, our teachers are required to be learners and committed to continuous improvement while participating in an eighteen week Induction Process. While we are preparing teachers to teach online, 90% have indicated their learning at NCVPS has changed the way that they teach in the brick-and-mortar setting.

Since 2007, North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) has been a cutting edge virtual school that has grown to serve over 50,000 individual student enrollments each year in both the public school and non-public school arenas. NCVPS has been nationally and internationally recognized for quality instruction, teacher preparation, a student led peer tutoring program, and its OCS Program for students with disabilities. NCVPS seeks to share successes and challenges so that other schools and systems can strengthen their own online and blended learning programs and policies.
