Learn how faculty use gaming knowledge and professional development sessions to design/enhance media-rich, interactive online courses. Developed with funding from a National Science Foundation grant.

Extended Abstract

Presentation will cover the details of the National Science Foundation Grant: Developing Comprehensive Career Pathways in Mining. It will include the curriculum developed and the professional development activities conducted. Two courses in instructional design were created and offered to faculty. These courses centered on gaming concepts and its impact on today's learner. Designed activities allowed faculty to see the need to develop interactive media-rich online course content and gave them the skills and tools necessary to sustain the courses after development. The presentation will include an interactive discussion on concepts included in the training as well as the resulting curricular changes. Participants will receive a flash drive containing the grant background, professional development course syllabi and materials, best practices established/utilized, and grant outcomes.
