Abstract

In this presentation you will see examples of “Best Practices” in online tutoring and advising support from several of AskOnline’s institutional clients.

Extended Abstract

AskOnline has been supporting online tutoring and advising programs in higher education for more than a decade. We have seen a decade of students, tutors, advisors, administrators, coaches, program directors and other vested parties interact with emerging technologies to provide better academic support to achieve the ultimate end-game: better graduation statistics and graduates getting better jobs.

AskOnline’s technology has emerged in part because of the ways our clients decide to use it. A number of factors come into play that determine whether programs will adopt real time connectivity with students, or delayed forms of interactions.

In this presentation you will see examples of “Best Practices” in online tutoring and advising support from several of AskOnline’s institutional clients. Issues you will hear about will include:

  • Factors that determine benefits of asynchronous vs. synchronous connectivity with students
  • Measuring the benefits of using your own staff vs outside providers
  • The most effective reports to run as you evaluate aspects of your online support
  • Turning points: how accreditation reviews and other institutional initiatives make a case for outsourcing
