Engaging and interacting with DBA students on a weekly basis through Adobe Connect.

Extended Abstract

Online non-traditional doctoral students face numerous challenges that campus- based students do not experience. Self motivation is a necessary asset to complete the course work; however, this student population requires a significant deposit into their confidence bank to comprehend, implement, and complete the dissertation phase of the program. Recognizing that doctoral students must complete a dissertation to graduate, the alternative of not completing the program leaves the student without a degree, or anything to indicate the resources, time, and hard work expelled over several years was deemed unacceptable.

Connecting with DBA students by providing critical strategies to overcome the challenges of limited interaction, Columbia Southern University began offering Adobe Connect sessions on Monday evenings. The sessions were an immediate success. Attendance was high the very first session, and after seven months, attendance continues to hold steady with new attendees each week. The sessions provide strategies from working on a topic during course work to tips on presenting a convincing defense. Furthermore, faculty are attending these sessions in increasing numbers to support the program director. Sessions are recorded for students that cannot attend the live session.

Online does not have to mean Alone. Live-Online-And Loving It presents a unique method of connecting with students that will lead to success!
