Abstract

Explore how Smart Sparrow’s adaptive technology empowers faculty to create and deliver engaging and personalized learning experiences at scale.

Extended Abstract

We are truly in the midst of an education revolution. The explosion of education technology and rise of digital natives now entering college is challenging traditional teaching methods. Increasingly, educational institutions are shifting the classroom experience online, yet faculty still face the quintessential challenges associated with online teaching: disengaged students, undifferentiated instruction, unintuitive and canned learning experiences. As a result, many students are left uninspired and without the support needed to complete their courses.

That said, education technology is also transforming the teacher experience and the way content is delivered. While many fear that ed-tech might replace teachers, companies are now leading a more teacher-centric trend in ed tech—building technology that is focused on teacher-generated instruction instead of publisher-generated content—the belief being that the best content, both in the classroom and online, comes from teachers.

Smart Sparrow, an ed-tech company pioneering adaptive and personalized technology, is steering the revolutionary process by enabling faculty to create engaging and adaptive learning experiences and then continuously improve them using learner analytics. This new approach to mass personalization—where the educator can customize both content and layers of adaptivity—puts the faculty at the center of the process, ensuring they retain full pedagogical ownership over their courseware and control over their teaching.

Director of Academic Communities, Anthony Medina, takes an interesting perspective. Join him to:

1. Learn how Adaptive Technologies can improve learning and teaching and provide better control of pedagogy for educators
2. Gain insight from experience in teaching with adaptive courseware at scale
3. Discuss the proven student results from an adaptive learning implementation
4. Understand opportunities for accelerating adaptive learning in your teaching

Smart Sparrow spun out of a research lab at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, working for 7 years in the field of Intelligent Tutoring Systems. Over time, however, we learned that in our heart - we are a learning design company and everything we do, from the software we build and the services we provide - is geared toward one thing - empowering educators to give their students, the best learning experiences possible. Today our tools are currently used in over 500 institutions around the world.
