Discovery Session 1

The brain is shaped through experience and interaction. This session discusses the online learning process, federal regulations, and strategies to support the transfer of knowledge.

Extended Abstract

Neuroscience research reveals that the brain continues to develop throughout the human lifespan. Furthermore, research specific to neuroplasticity shows that the brain is able to reorganize and rewire itself through experience and interaction. How does this affect our approach to online learning?

This interactive session engages attendees in a series of exercises that examine neuromyths and perception. Presenters will highlight critical federal regulations that must be considered when developing online courses and how the regulations support best practices. Participants will see and hear how to create a more interactive, individually targeted real time learning experience(s). Presenters will also discuss the online learning process, online neuro-instructional design, and online neuro-pedagogy with examples of web assets and learning experiences. Attendees will examine ideological assumptions about cognitive function as a foundation for reconceptualizing educational design. The interplay between these concepts and the online learning process have the potential to transform how we design and teach in the online environment.
