In this session, participants will be introduced to the online orientation courses offered to students enrolling in the online RN/BSN or MSN degree programs at USC Upstate.

Extended Abstract

In an effort to ensure student success in the online RN/BSN and online MSN degree programs, the USC Upstate Mary Black School of Nursing implemented a required online student orientation. As a part of the final admission process, all candidates must successfully complete a one-week, interactive online orientation course.

The course itself is designed to increase students’ knowledge of and prepare students for an online, hybrid or technology enhanced course at USC Upstate. Generally, topics included are as follows:

  • Setting appropriate expectations
  • Guidance in online etiquette
  • Information on available support resources
  • Assessment of the readiness for the student for online learning

This session will include a discussion of orientation benefits, challenges, student feedback and a general discussion of lessons learned.
