Abstract

Session focuses on a faculty development model to support collaborative course development and innovative technology integration with effective course delivery strategies.

Extended Abstract

Session explores a faculty development model for encouraging effective growth and development in a workshop format. This session is appropriate for faculty, instructional designers and facilitators for faculty professional development within your educational institution. Faculty in the professional development workshop described and demonstrated have the opportunity to experiment with innovative technology integration in a non-threatening environment, while honing engaging pedagogical strategies. They also have the opportunity to explore a variety of technologies from a student perspective, providing them with the ability to understand concerns their students may express through their courses. Faculty enthusiasm generated through the milestone badging system within the course is such a positive motivation for them. The workshop itself is set up in such a way as to model the effective online teaching experience. Participants in this session will see how faculty can share their subject matter expertise in the course development process and work collaboratively with an instructional designer to create a dynamic, engaging course with a solid focus on research based best practices. They will also take part in small group discussions, interactive question and answer sessions, and reflections on how to incorporate portions of the model in their own professional community. We will share a course blueprint model which maps out a concise overview of a course and clearly demonstrates the alignment between objectives, instructional materials, activities, assessments, and tools. The format of this professional development model promotes cross curricular interaction within and across departments. We will share feedback from workshop participants. This faculty development model offers the opportunity to meet faculty where they are and guide them as they move to the next levels of accomplishment, truly an exciting experience for all involved.
Handouts and/or online materials include session outline, blueprint template and sample which also outlines workshop content.
