A framework for cross-referencing learning analytics with student satisfaction and performance data that can be applied in a wide variety of blended learning environments.

Extended Abstract

The availability of learning analytics to help us see how students use online learning environments has introduced an incredible resource to improve blended learning experiences for students and faculty. Yet, in order to get usable design information from these analytics, we need more than spreadsheet data and graphs showing frequency and timing of accesses, course paths and social networks. We also need to consider student perceptions of their experience and how they perform in the course. We will present a flexible framework for cross-referencing learning analytics with data about student satisfaction and performance that can be applied in a wide variety of blended and online learning environments. By correlating student behaviors, satisfaction and performance across indicators, it becomes possible to identify where design or user interventions could be implemented to improve learner experiences and outcomes. Participants will practice using specific methods and formulas to triangulate quantitative and qualitative course data to glean usable design information.
