Abstract

Share your best recipes for creating effective blended learning concoctions that move beyond delivery mode and into the realm of cuisine.

Extended Abstract

This session assumes that you have discovered your inner chef as a blended learning virtuoso -- or that you wish to discover your inner chef by being around fellow colleagues who have already been there. As connoisseurs and creators of this new cuisine, we will celebrate, share, and learn together.

The structure of this session will be a potluck: bring something to share with the audience -- stories, handouts, about how you have created effective blended learning experiences for your learners. (Or, if you have nothing to share, bring an appetite!) Swap tips and secrets about how you discovered something about how to make a learning experience more effective -- or kitchen disasters that others would benefit from avoiding. The facilitator will bring his own sample recipes derived from the more exotic reaches of the blended learning world, and he will try to cook up a surprise or two as well.

Be prepared to emerge from the blended-learning-as-delivery-mode box: examples will include different kinds of blends beyond the online+classroom formula. Well sample learning experience blends such as curricular/extracurricular, virtualization, active and passive learning, and blurred delivery. Well discuss how to get value added from some of the trendier (or maybe not-so-trendy) trends in higher education such as flipping the classroom, adaptive learning, and MOOCs.

At the end of the session, we will assemble whats been brought to the table into a doggie bag for you to take away a new recipe, or set of tips, or ideas for new blended learning experiences!
