The panel is made up of representatives from both K-12- and higher education-focused journals. The panel includes Kathryn Kennedy, Senior Research at MVU's Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute who serves as editor of AACE's Journal of Online Learning Research; Vanessa Dennen, Associate Professor at Florida State University's College of Education who serves as editor of The Internet and Higher Education; and Rick Ferdig, Summit Professor of Learning Technologies at Kent State University who serves as an associate editor-in-chief for the Journal of Technology and Teacher Education.

Lead Presenter

Kathryn Kennedy is a Senior Researcher at the MVU's Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute. Her team conducts and coordinates research projects in K-12 online and blended learning and hosts webinars, a blog, and a podcast series, three venues that help to disseminate the field’s research. Her practical and research experiences include educator professional development for technology integration and instructional design in traditional, blended, and online learning environments. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Florida (2010) in curriculum and instruction, with a concentration in educational technology. She is co-chair of the SITE Virtual Schooling SIG and co-editor of the Journal of Online Learning Research (AACE).

Vanessa Dennen is an Associate Professor of Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies at Florida State University. At FSU, she teaches courses on research methods, learning theory, and instructional design and for new and emerging technologies. Vanessa’s research investigates community development and knowledge activities in online environments, including both formal and informal learning contexts and examining technologies ranging from learning management systems to social media tools. She is co-editor of The Internet and Higher Education.
