In today’s business climate, certifications are a must to demonstrate validity and current knowledge. As a general rule, these certifications are very demanding and require intensive study and memorization. We have found that it is a struggle for people to learn the material on their own. In fact, studies have shown that people learn much better in a group setting. However, group training presents its own challenges including forming a group and keeping the group engaged, interested, and on track. We have solved this problem within our Project Management Professional (PMP®) study course by adding gamification. With gamification, we have provided an online component to the training, including learning games, weekly challenges, posted leaderboards and other gamification strategies. By creating this blended learning approach, we have certified our Project Managers at a 97% pass rate. Anne will show all aspects of this very successful program that was created to certify Project Managers.
Extended Abstract

“Gamification” has become an industry buzzword.  Learning Experts and training articles encourage trainers to incorporate gamification into their learning environments.  But rarely does anyone explain how this can be done without purchasing a gamified platform – which can start at $10,000. Most small to mid-size companies and academia do not have the money to invest in such a platform.  In this presentation, participants will get the opportunity to experience gamified training, learn how to integrate blended gamification design techniques into their own training, and discover the tools needed to create their own gamified course.

As the Apex Learning Solutions Manager Anne provides leadership and oversight of the design and development of learning solutions for several Fortune 100 companies, along with leading training and development programs for Apex’s internal team. Anne is skilled in all forms of E-Learning, M-Learning, instructor-led learning, and blended training approaches. Anne earned her degree in Computer Science and engineering with a minor in Interactive Game Design, this degree allows her to get the absolute most out of all eLearning software.
