Institutions will explain how analytics are being used to establish clear expectations for innovative blended programs, and methods of assessment for continuous improvement.

Extended Abstract

Valencia College and Lee Community College are examples of institutions that are meaningfully different, but equally committed to the belief that students are unique individuals and they experience college in powerfully personal ways. Through unique blended models and courses, these institutions offer students the opportunity to take agency of their own education, and give the institution itself the ability to find measures of success that are based on students' learning experiences. 

During this session, Lee College, one of the 24 colleges and universities in the U.S. to receive a grant in the $75 million First in the World grant program, will share how the college's location in the petrochemical epicenter of the western hemisphere -- where there is a plethora of gold collar' jobs that require only an associate's degree, but only nine community colleges to produce graduates - has led to the design of a unique blended program to help close the broad skills gap. Lee College is offering four streamlined degrees with high demand in the area workforce via a Weekend College. The unique format includes a unique combination of weekend college, cohort-based, fast-track, hybrid format, with a flipped classroom model of lecture online and hands on learning in the weekend classrooms. The model also includes student success coaches and the use of predictive insights and action analytics applications help the institutions and educators identify what's working, and for whom, once the programs rolls out in the fall of 2015.

Additionally, Valencia College will share how they have developed a culture of analytics at the institution, and implemented analytics applications to deliver real-time insights to committed students and faculty in the front lines of education in order to improve the quality of conversations about diverse student pathways and learning. Speakers will dive into how they are training campus-based subject matter experts in predictive analytics, cultivating institutional expertise to continuously refine and improve blended learning environments, and leveraging predictive insights and action analytics to study and test the impact of student engagement strategies in blended courses, measuring changes in student performance over time.
