Engage with colleagues and experiment with emerging technologies, as you explore the impact of humanized online learning on student engagement and faculty perceptions about online teaching.

Extended Abstract

This high-energy workshop will engage you in a mindful conversation about what humanized online learning is, how it promotes student engagement, and how it improves perceptions faculty hold about online learning. The presenters will demonstrate how CSU Channel Islands has used the principle of humanized online learning as the foundation of their Online Teaching Preparation Program and share feedback from faculty participants. You will be provided with a Tool Buffet comprised of emerging technologies that are selected for their humanizing potential and view practical applications of these tools in an online course.

Workshop Interaction & Takeaways:

1. Review literature that underscores the value of developing relationships and community in an online class.

2. Share your own strategies for fostering humanized learning at a distance.
Preview the curriculum and course design of CSU Channel Island's "How to Humanize Your Online Course."

3. Reflect on faculty feedback about CI's "How to Humanize Your Online Course" (http://page.teachingwithoutwalls.com/cihumanize).

4. Using your own device, select an emerging technology from the "Tool Buffet" (http://page.teachingwithoutwalls.com/tool-buffet) and create content that will be shared with the rest of the conference via Twitter.
