Abstract/Summary of Effective Practice: 

The blended learning environment was created at Faculty of Education in Gaziantep University in Turkey. Elemantary school teacher training program students participated to the study. A mixed method research design is used to gather the data.We have used 50% face-to-face and 50% online for blending. Facebook and blogs are used for the online section of the course. Facebook intended to use for communication and blogs for reflection. But the study showed that students used Facebook as a learning and community of practice in addition to communication and blogs for learning, interaction and reflection. Students showed their satisfaction for blended learning environment and for web 2.0 tools.

Description of the Effective Practice: 

We have used Facebook and blogs in a blended learning environment. Students showed their satisfaction strongly by participating Facebook groups and writing their blogs regularly. Students used Facebook as communication tool with their friends and with the teacher. Students also used Facebook as a learning tool by asking questions to the group and getting answer quickly. Facebook also made a community of practice of students. Students communicated, answered in group page and interacted with other students and teacher. The blogs are used in this study as a powerful learning tool. According to the analyzed data blogs increased the retention of the knowledge, attention for the course and provide collaborative learning opportunity to the students. The study also showed that blogs are very powerful reflective tools for learning.

How does this practice relate to pillars?: 

This practice is carried out in a university course for a term and students showed their satisfaction for this course. Also they stated that their learning is developed and their knowledge in increased. all these show that this practice is related with student satisfaction and learning effectiveness.

Equipment necessary to implement Effective Practice: 

Transforming a course to a blended learning model. A well knowledge about using software for authoring such as adobe captivate, camtasia, adobe flash, adobe presenter and some online evaluation tools such as hot potatoes. Also good knowledge about blended learning methods.

Estimate the probable costs associated with this practice: 

To transform a course one need approximately 5000 us dollars.

Blended learning can enhance the learning process with technological tools.
